Get to Know Dr. Christopher A. Payne
Dr. Chris Payne is a Danville native, and graduated from Tunstall High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the College of William and Mary in 1998. After he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2003 from the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry, Dr. Payne came to Danville and joined with Danville Dental Associates.
Dr. Chris Payne is a member of the American Dental Association and the Virginia Dental Association, as well as the Piedmont Dental Society and Danville Regional Dental Society. Dr. Payne has completed extensive hours of continuing education since graduating from VCU, enabling him to be awarded a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2007. In 2013, Dr. Payne was awarded a Master’s in the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD) for having completed over 2,000 hours in continuing education since graduation from dental school. His studies included seminars which focused on all practices of general dentistry, such as Dentures, Veneers, Implants, in-office bleaching, and Root Canal Therapy. But his most extensive training has been Invisalign® and Orthodontics. He is a general dentist that treats many orthodontics patients because he truly enjoys helping improve the appearance and function of their teeth. Dr. Payne is one of the first practitioners in the State of Virginia to use digital scanning to make clear aligners in-office for straightening teeth. Dr. Payne believes in the importance of social responsibility and giving back to the community. In the past, Dr. Payne worked with Head Start to help children begin building a foundation in good oral hygiene habits. He has participated in the Southwest Virginia Mission of Mercy project and the Danville Mini-MOM (Mission of Mercy) project where adults and children who may have otherwise not been able to obtain dental care were treated. Dr. Payne is a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a member of the Kiwanis Club and served as the President of the Parent Teacher Organization at Twin Springs Elementary School. He was awarded the Young Professionals PACE Award by the Chamber of Commerce for Professional and Community Engagement in the Danville-Pittsylvania County Region.
Dr. Payne was instrumental in establishing the Give Thanks for Smiles project sponsored by Danville Dental Associates. Each year all locations for Danville Dental Associates offer dental services to the community for $50 per procedure. On that day, the doctors and staff provide hygiene services, x-rays, extractions and restorative services. All proceeds for the day are donated to a local charity. Over the past several years, thousands of dollars have been given to a local food bank, God’s Storehouse. Dr. Chris Payne married his wife, Han, in 2003. Together, they have two sons, Zachary and Sam, and one daughter, Olivia.
