Frequently Asked Dental Questions – Collinsville, VA

Get the Answers You Need Right Here

We know that dentistry is an unfamiliar subject for most people, which is why we’re always happy to take time to answer our patients’ questions. No question is too small or too silly—the more you know, the healthier your teeth will be! We’ve gone ahead and answered some of our frequently asked dental questions below, but if there is anything else you’d like to know more about, don’t hesitate to give us a call.

How often should I get a dental checkup and teeth cleaning?

Our dentists agree with the American Dental Association on this one: patients of all ages should receive at least two checkups and cleanings each year. These appointments allow our team to catch and treat small problems early, plus regular cleanings can prevent the development of cavities and gum disease in the first place.

How long will it take to repair my decayed/broken tooth?

The answer to this question really depends on the extent of the damage. For a minor injury or small cavity, we can probably take care of it in a single appointment with a tooth-colored filling. But, if the tooth has extensive decay or a large crack, we may need to cover it with a dental crown, which takes about two appointments to design, mill, and place.

Why do root canals hurt so much?

This is actually a myth! Root canals are used to treat teeth that have developed an infection in their inner nerve. The pain associated with the procedure actually stems from the problems it’s designed to fix! The treatment itself is very comfortable and can provide almost immediate relief for even the worst toothache.

Will my damaged tooth need to be extracted?

In most cases, we’re able to restore even the most damaged teeth, but we may choose to extract a tooth if it is simply beyond the point of repair. This can be the case if a cavity has already deteriorated most of a tooth or if the enamel is so broken that it cannot be trusted to support a filling or crown.

Are dental implants better than traditional bridges and dentures?

This really depends on the individual patient, but in most cases, both of our dentists would highly recommend dental implants to any patient looking to replace their missing teeth. They are simply the best looking and longest lasting option available today, and our dental office is actually one of the few in the area that can provide the entire procedure from beginning to end to help patients save time.

Will you accept my dental insurance?

We are in-network with Delta Dental, but we’re happy to accept many other plans as well. To learn how we could use your particular policy to help you save at your next appointment, give us a call today.
